Privacy notice
How we use the information you give us through this website's enquiry forms.
Who we are
The Shabby Attic, 82 High Street, Coleshill, Warwickshire, B46 3AH, is responsible for the personal information you give us through this website (we are the "data controller"). You can contact us about privacy by calling 01675 777 009 or by writing to us at the shop.
What we collect
When you use one of our enquiry forms, we collect the details you choose to give us:
- your name, phone number and/or email address
- your address or postcode, if you ask for a home visit or choose to give it with an online valuation request
- your town or a suggested venue, if you register interest in a roadshow
- information about the items you'd like us to look at, any photos or videos of them you send us, and any message you write
- how you'd like us to contact you, and confirmation that you've read this notice
We also record the date and time the form was sent. Our web host keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, for security and to keep the website running.
If you use the chat assistant on this website, we keep the messages you type and the replies, together with the page you were on. Please don't put payment details or other sensitive information in the chat. Your browser remembers a random chat reference on your device, so that your chat carries on if you reload the page; it isn't a tracking cookie and we don't use it for anything else.
Why we use it
We use your details only to reply to your enquiry, to arrange a valuation, home visit or roadshow, and to keep a record of our conversation with you. We never sell your information or use it for marketing without asking you first.
Our lawful basis
Under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), we rely on:
- steps you ask us to take before a possible contract, such as arranging an appraisal or home visit (Article 6(1)(b)); and
- our legitimate interests in responding to enquiries and running our business (Article 6(1)(f)).
Who we share it with
Your enquiry is sent to us by email. Online valuation requests, with their photos and videos, are also stored securely on our web server in a private area that only we can sign in to; they can't be seen by the public. The companies that host our website and email process it on our behalf and may not use it for anything else. If we consult a member of our specialist network about an item, we share details and photos of the item, not your personal details, unless you agree.
Chat questions are answered automatically by Google's Gemini AI service, so what you type in the chat is sent to Google to produce the reply, so please don't put personal details in the chat unless you want us to have them. A member of our team reads chats and may step in to reply, and we are alerted through Telegram, so chat messages (and your contact details, if you give them in the chat) also pass through Telegram. If you contact us on WhatsApp, WhatsApp's own privacy policy also applies. Our map is a plain picture until you choose "Show interactive map"; only then does Google Maps load, and it may set its own cookies. The latest Facebook posts on The Shop page and the Google reviews on the home page are copied to our own server, so viewing them doesn't contact Facebook or Google or set any cookies. If you choose to write a review, you leave our website and Google's own privacy policy applies. This website doesn't set any cookies itself.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiries, including any photos and videos you send, for up to 12 months and then delete them. Please avoid including people or anything personal in your photos. Chat messages are deleted automatically after 90 days. If you sell items to us, we keep the records of that sale for as long as the law requires, for example for accounting purposes.
Your rights
You have the right to ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it, delete it or restrict how we use it. You can also object to how we use it, and ask us to transfer it to you or another organisation. To make a request, call us or write to us at the shop. We'll reply within one month.
Keeping it safe
This website uses a secure (HTTPS) connection, and we limit access to enquiries to the people who need them to reply to you.
Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please talk to us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator: visit ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or call 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this notice
We'll update this notice if the way we use your information changes. Last updated: October 2026.
